Newborn Portraits
Newborns are my passion. I just LOVE photographing a couple day old baby. Their soft, wrinkly skin, their new baby smell, BABY TOES!!!!! I love every aspect of newborn photography.
Newborn sessions are scheduled to take place when your baby is approximately 2-3 weeks old or younger, ideally around 7-10 days old for best results. To me, newborn portraits are one of the most important types of photos to have taken professionally. Newborns change so quickly, they only look like this for a very short period of time. It’s important to document all their little details before they’re gone. My 2-3 Week Guideline is by no means a “rule”, so if we need to photograph your baby at a little older age, or if there happens to be an extended hospital stay, etc. there is no problem photographing your baby then, we just may have to adjust parts/poses during the session to accommodate. But I will NEVER turn a baby away for being “too old”.
Newborn babies are fragile, delicate little people. While they seem to be able to tuck & bend into any position imaginable, its easy to hurt them or compromise their airways if you don’t know exactly what your doing. This is just another reason to leave Newborn Photography to a professional. Hire someone with experience in not only photography, but Newborn Photography specifically. Not every photo on Instagram/Pinterest is taken how it looks. A lot of newborn photos are “composites”, meaning 2 or more photos merged together during the editing process (to remove supporting hands, etc.) My #1 focus during a newborn session is always SAFETY, then quality. No photo is worth risking your precious baby’s health or safety.
Booking your Newborn Session during your pregnancy helps ensure that your baby gets a place on my schedule. While I do try to accomodate all newborn requests, booking early guarantees you & your baby gets a spot. I limit the number of newborns I take on that are due during a given time to ensure I can get your baby in during my preferred timeframe (2-3 weeks old) regardless of when your Baby decides to make his/her Entrance into the World. You can also add on Portraits of your new baby with their big siblings, as well as the “First Family Portrait”.
You can view my Newborn Session Info (HERE) for tips on how to prepare for your session, what you need to bring, how to go about the sibling’s part of the session, etc.
